Dollhouse Reminder

Posted in Television News, Television Review with tags , , , , , , on February 26, 2009 by xymarla

Hey guys! Just a quick reminder to watch Dollhouse tonight (9/8c).

Last week’s ep was much improved, no? Many of the plot ambiguities were made satisfactorily clear, Eliza kinda sold it, and there was an awesome “Tabula Rasa” Buffy shout-out!

(this review’s somewhat spoilery)

I saw the new Friday the 13th this week with my friend Jerry. We were the only ones in the theater, which makes for a fun MST3K experience.

Guys, this one actually wasn’t too bad! I know what you’re thinking. How can a movie with a promo still THIS hilarious not be too bad?:

Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse premiered on Fox last Friday (9/8C). Episode title: “Ghost.”

Of course, I’m a big Joss fan. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Serenity. I’ve seen some of Angel and liked it pretty well. I had high hopes for Dollhouse when I first heard about it; we all did. Eliza Dushku plays the super fun bad-ass Faith on a few early seasons of Buffy, and her storyline is one of the coolest parts of the entire show. Plus, she’s pretty. Like, crazy pretty.

But then we all heard about the issues with the pilot—the reshoots, creative bickering, production delays, etc. And let’s be frank here: when have Fridays on Fox ever done Joss any favors? Seriously, man. Try the SciFi Network. They’re not embarrassing anymore! And they’ll keep your shows around FOR ETERNITY. Did you know Stargate SG-1 was on for TEN seasons?

I’ve been bananas to see Coraline since it was released, and I got the chance this weekend.

Naturally, I adore Neil Gaiman, and director Henry Selick did a great job on the daunting flights of fantasy that were James and the Giant Peach (another adaptation of a beloved children’s book) and The Nightmare Before Christmas.  As with any good 3D film, the credits rock. A sinister-looking skeletal hand wields a sewing needle and thread, attaching buttons to a limp rag doll. The needle plunges toward and away from the audience, drawing us in as if we are the buttons. By the time the film starts, we’re hooked.

Horrific Perfection

Hi there. I’ve been meaning to get this blog off the ground for a long time, considering I’ve spent the past several years writing reviews of horror movies only to do nothing but save them to my desktop. So here we are.

Before I get into more recent or mediocre films, I’d like to get this baby rolling with a discussion on what I consider to be The Perfect Horror Movie: Hellraiser.
