It’s Recommends Day Wednesday!

Due to THIS atrocious news, I wanted to do a Recommends Day of the outstanding Motel Hell, which everyone should watch immediately and further honor by NEVER watching the blanched, watered-down recrap they’re planning to shovel down our throats. But, well, I already did that. So I decided to recommend a movie that includes another kind of Motel Hell, the Seven Doors Hotel featured in Lucio Fulci’s extraordinary The Beyond.

Welcome to a new feature here at DIH, wherein I briefly recommend a movie you should totally add to your Netflix queue post-haste!

Black Sheep is a 2007 film by New Zealand writer and director Jonathan King. And it’s about zombie sheep!

Okay, so we’re agreed that this movie looks really dumb, yes? And you’re not wrong. This movie is dumb. It’s also hilarious, weird, BLOODY AS HELL and, implausibly, sometimes scary! Black Sheep has some atrocious gore and exceptionally great dialogue. It also has the CUTEST  boy in it, this guy:

Extra! Extra! Come see me host the Deadgirl midnight screening at Houston’s River Oaks theater this Friday, July 24! I’ll be charming! And I’ll serve…free beer! And I’ll…throw cash at you, Joker-style!

Okay, no, to most of the above, but I WILL be there, hosting a movie that is certain to kick your ass with a whole lot of awesome, and I promise to be mostly sober even though it’s my birthday. So show up and support me! I demand it!

On to the actual news!

Again, with the duh.

Every single bit of Zombieland intel has me convinced it’s going to kick some massively intense ass. The one sheet is no exception.

I first watched Stuart Gordon’s 1986 film From Beyond freshman year in college, at some party, barely paying attention. I’m honestly not sure how I managed that, because whatever else this film is, it is certainly something that DEMANDS YOUR ATTENTION.

This movie is SO WEIRD. Keep in mind, please—I’m saying this as a woman who has reviewed an entire retrospective’s worth of Stuart Gordon films.  I know from weird, alright, you guys? From Beyond is something…else.

And I’ve been a manic little Marla lately, so this’ll be a quickie!

As we all know by now, Ryan Reynolds has won the role of Green Lantern, beating out Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto (really? Leto? No.). Fear not, lovers of hard-hitting journalism—I will find many, many more excuses to post pictures such as the above in the context of this news.
