Extra! Extra! Marla is Officially the Crummiest Blogger on the Internet!

So I pinky swear to get back to some REAL REVIEWS on old DIH next week, but in the meantime, check out the archives and dig the scoop!

hot tub time machine

I haven’t yet seen Hot Tub Time Machine, but obviously it’s already my favorite film of 2010. So the news that director Steve Pink is grabbing the genre reins to bring us Werewolves of Reseda, described as “Teen Wolf meets The Hangover” sounds, well, probably terrible but possibly awesome!

So many new, exciting details are being revealed about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Pics. A description of the world’s most mind-blowingly magnificent ride. JK’s involvement. The portraits! Dumbledore’s office! Honeydukes! GEEKGASM ALERT.  Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Hollywood is boring the shit out of me lately!

I thought this was already official? Well, it’s officially lame, at any rate. Scream 4 is a go, with the original cast attached, Kevin Williamson tweeting the hell out of it, and…yes. Wes Craven confirmed to direct. Sigh. I love the 90s?

Speaking of the 90s, Kevin Smith’s horror movie Red State is apparently finally in the works. We’ll see about that, homes. Continue reading

Sorority Row

Posted in Film Review, Horror Movie Review with tags , , , , , , on March 11, 2010 by xymarla

Ahh, Sorority Row. You were both awesomer and less awesome than the movie I thought I was going to see.

Granted, the film I thought I was going to see was a cheap, cheesy, hilariously bad slasher flick. And wow, Sorority Row was that. But frankly, I expected more nudity out of a rated R horror movie set in a sorority house! Am I wrong to expect that? Don’t pretend you’re too classy for that, movie! Own your sleaze! Like Lost Boys 2: The Tribeas a timely for instance. That’s why that particular gem got a C+ to your slipshod C, Sorority Row.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever

Posted in Film Review, Horror Movie Review with tags , , , , on March 10, 2010 by xymarla

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever is a BAD movie. But I kinda dug it, for that.

You may ask yourself why I bothered to watch a straight-to-vid horror sequel. That is a perfectly reasonable question. I generally avoid such schlock, and sadly, Cabin Fever 2 pretty much reinforced that stance. But Eli Roth’s original Cabin Fever is on my Top 50 Horror Movies of the Decade list; more importantly, Cabin Fever 2 director Ti West’s The House of the Devil is on my Top 50 list, as well.

Extra! Extra! I saw the face-melting Tron Legacy trailer in IMAX 3D!

And you can too, if you watch Alice in Wonderland! Or you can just watch it on your computer screen and only melt your face a little bit. (read my Alice review here.)

Meredith over at io9 broke down the trailer and analyzed each still for us. Do you guys think if I stole her identity, she’d notice?

And she’s got the brand new Iron Man 2 trailer here. May 7th! May 7th!  Continue reading

Quickie Review: Alice in Wonderland

Posted in Fantasy Movie Review, Film Review, Quickie Review with tags , , , , , , , , on March 8, 2010 by xymarla

I’ve got a full blogging plate this week, but I had to take a moment to recommend Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to you guys!

I have to admit, after reading many tepid reviews, I was beginning to feel pretty uneasy about this version of Lewis Carroll’s beloved Alice. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton created an entirely new story of the 19-year-old Alice’s return to Wonderland, and that’s an extraordinarily ballsy endeavor. Fortunately, the risk paid off.
