It’s News Day Tuesday!

Extra! Extra! Wonder Woman is getting the shaft again!

Ugh. So although Hollywood will spit out a dozen movies a year with random, no-big-deal MALE comic book characters, one of the greatest superheroes of all time who happens to be a woman can’t get one single damned feature film. The long-touted Wonder Woman movie is now a television show. Oh AND?! It’s being written/produced by the abysmal David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal). THIS IS BULLSHIT.

x-men first class

Some scoop from the set of X-Men: First Class, being shot at Oxford currently.

deadpool

And we’ve got some news from NYCC regarding the Deadpool movie and which other Marvel characters we can expect to see, including…Colossus! The coolest X-Man ever! Obvs Ryan Reynolds will not reprise his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine because he’s got bigger, greener, lanternier fish to fry.

wolverine

Speaking of our least favorite comic book movie of all time, serious-business director Darren Aronofsky is considering following the immense critical success of Black Swan with a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Yes, okay, that sounds reasonable utterly insane and made up. (Read my review of Wolverine here.)

gwen stacyemma stone

Sony has confused America by casting Emma Stone in the new Spider-Man reboot not as redhead Mary Jane Watson, but as blonde Gwen Stacy! The film will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Peter Parker. I have MAJOR girl crush on Emma Stone, by the by.

the flash

Loads of comics movie news today! Well, except for Wonder Woman, which is comics TV news. *grumble grumble* At any rate, Warner Bros. is circling a feature of The Flash, who is truly one of the greatest Justice Leaguers. Geoff Johns (YAY!) is developing the script with Greg  Berlanti (Brothers and Sisters). Names being bandied about include Bradley Cooper (eh) and Adam Brody (YES!).

28 days later

Big news! Danny Boyle is returning to direct 28 Months Later!!! That, or the movie will never be made by him or anyone else. The internets are unsure upon this point.

don't be afraid of the dark

Guillermo del Toro’s inexplicable Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark remake, starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce, has been pushed back to later next year.

they live

Today, in News That Makes Marla Stabby, Hollywood is remaking the classic John Carpenter film They Live and probably omitting the rad and plot-critical sunglasses. Why the why?!

the thing

And as you know, Carpenter’s The Thing is also being remade LE SIGH. The trailer has leaked online and it looks like just what you would expect.

let me in

Speaking of news that once made me stabby, and now makes me sheepish because apparently it’s phenomenal, Matt Reeves, director of Let Me In, the American remake of Let the Right One In, gives a great interview here. Aww, Reevesie, I’m sorry I called you a souless piece of suit.

walking dead

AMC has released a 17-minute making-of feature for The Walking Dead. Only 19 more days!

being human

Check out the first images from the American remake of the BBC series Being Human, starring Sam Witwer (Smallville, The Mist, Battlestar Galactica) as a smoking hot vampire. Is there any other kind?

That’s it for today, kids! Good news day, no? Check out the archives for more news and reviews.

  1. Yes — do something on Colossus! As for Wonder Woman…don’t worry — her time will come for the big screen soon enough. And regarding Deadpool…why not Reynolds? James Marsden played Lois’ husband in Superman Returns and Cyclops…

  2. You raise a good point, but Ryan Reynolds seems a lot busier than James Marsden these days…

  3. marla, it looks like we need to take out a big ole bank loan and MAKE THIS WONDER WOMAN MOVIE OURSELVES.

also, i am totes stoked that emma stone is gonna be in spiderman. LOVE HER.
