Summer 2011 was Franchise City, and Hollywood is reaping the benefits in a big way. The box office success of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Hangover 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Fast Five and Cars 2 has carried this summer into record-breaking numbers, which means we can look forward to Harry Potter: The Retirement Years, The Hangover 7, Transformers: Light of My Life, Pirates of the Caribbean: Johnny Depp’s Still Doing It, Fast Fifteen and Cars ‘n’ Trucks: Love On The Racetrack. Borders Line: Who Else Is Stoked For Heckerling’s VAMPS?

Posted in Movie News with tags , , , , , , on July 28, 2011 by xymarla

I’ve been bored with vampires since before being bored with vampires was cool. And yet? I can’t wait for Amy Heckerling’s Vamps. Here’s why: AMY HECKERLING. I simply can’t imagine that Heckerling’s coy, subversive humor won’t serve even the tired paranormal romance trend.

Borders Line: Has The Time For WORLD WAR Z Passed?

Posted in Movie News with tags , on June 16, 2011 by xymarla

Ahh, Brad Pitt, Matthew Fox, and zombies. Three things that enjoyed their heyday in the aughts. I could be wrong here, but is anyone still excited for an adaptation of World War Z?

Borders Line: So They’re Still Going Through With PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, Huh?

Posted in Movie News with tags , on May 5, 2011 by xymarla

Craig Gillespie has had a lot to say lately about his new role as director of the long-troubled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. He gives some good sound bites: he intends a gothic tone contrasted with the pastoral quality of Austen’s novels, he’s excited about the big action sequences and elaborate set pieces, and he wants the love story between Elizabeth and Darcy to really thrive at the core of all the juxtaposition and, you know, zombies. But I can’t help but wonder: why the hell are they even bothering with this movie anymore?

An interview with Paul Giamatti reveals that BUBBA NOSFERATU is definitely not happening, but JOHN DIES AT THE END should kick enough ass that I’m okay with that. Read all about it over at Badass Digest!

As you’ve likely heard by now, Adrianne Palicki is David E. Kelley’s new Wonder Woman. Solid casting. Pity she’ll be wasted on such a suck of a show. Linda Carter supports the new show, for whatever that is worth.

Mila Kunis is out for the Hughes Bros.’ live action Akira and in for Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful along with James Franco (replacing Robert Downey, Jr.) in the titular role. Kunis will play the Wicked Witch of the West in her younger, fairer years. Raimi, Franco and Kunis make an appealing team, particularly when paired with the great writer David Lindsay-Abaire. I’m in. (Read my review of Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell here.)

As desperately hoped for last week, Shane Black is confirmed to direct Iron Man 3. Hells to the yes!

As desperately dreaded last week, DJ Caruso will be directing the Preacher adaptation. This is going to be devastatingly shitty, y’all. Continue reading
