Favreau says bye-bye to Iron Manchise

boxing match

Everything about this interview confuses me. Jon Favreau is leaving the Iron Man franchise in order to make a Magic Kingdom family film. And that sounds TERRIBLE. But he has such big ideas and so much passion for the project! Usually when someone uses the phrase “family fare,” I flee in terror, but now Favreau’s making Magic Kingdom, Fincher’s making 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Guillermo’s making Haunted Mansion. And I LIKE these directors. I also adore Favreau’s earlier foray into family flicks, Elf, but I’m depressed at the prospect of Iron Man 3 now, when I had such high hopes after Iron Man 2 (reviewed here) for its becoming the trilogy for our generation. Well, at least we have Toy Story.

So…I dunno. I’m all aflutter. Will someone please tell me how to feel about this?

alien

In news that surprises no one, Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels have been pushed back for the umpteenth time.

You can see here two teaser one-sheets for Kevin Smith’s Red State, a horror movie that I am inexplicably excited to see. Seriously, why? I cannot answer that question. Maybe it’ll be awesome.

Now I can definitely get behind THIS project. Guillermo del Toro, the busiest man in the biz, has just confirmed that he’s moving forward with his Lovecraft adaptation, the epically titled At the Mountains of Madness. With James Cameron, somehow. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Wonder Woman is getting the shaft again!

Ugh. So although Hollywood will spit out a dozen movies a year with random, no-big-deal MALE comic book characters, one of the greatest superheroes of all time who happens to be a woman can’t get one single damned feature film. The long-touted Wonder Woman movie is now a television show. Oh AND?! It’s being written/produced by the abysmal David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal). THIS IS BULLSHIT.

x-men first class

Some scoop from the set of X-Men: First Class, being shot at Oxford currently.

And we’ve got some news from NYCC regarding the Deadpool movie and which other Marvel characters we can expect to see, including…Colossus! The coolest X-Man ever! Obvs Ryan Reynolds will not reprise his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine because he’s got bigger, greener, lanternier fish to fry.

wolverine

Speaking of our least favorite comic book movie of all time, serious-business director Darren Aronofsky is considering following the immense critical success of Black Swan with a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Yes, okay, that sounds reasonable utterly insane and made up. (Read my review of Wolverine here.) Continue reading

star wars

Extra! Extra! George Lucas has found a way to milk even more money from our childhoods! ALL SIX Star Wars movies will be re-released to theaters in 3D. Lordy.

superman

Zack Snyder has been chosen as the director for the Superman reboot by producer Christopher Nolan. The movie will be written by David Goyer. Solid choice, guys. To no one’s surprise, Brandon Routh is probably not being asked to return as the title hero in tights.

the hobbit

Also Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit will be released in 3D. Obvs.

spiderman

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s name is being bandied about as Venom in the Spider-Man reboot, probably just to get skeptics like myself to be interested in it. Well played, bishes. Continue reading

 sally menke

RIP, Sally Menke: the brilliant long-time editor of Quentin Tarantino, as well as such films as All the Pretty Horses and Mulholland Drive, passed away today.

deathly hallows

NEW! DEATHLY! HALLOWS! TRAILER! I’m very super excited about it; check out FYA’s highly scientific analysis!

the avengers

Joss Whedon gives a great interview here about the challenges and thrills of working with such a high-caliber cast on The Avengers. CANNOT WAIT! Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Marla's headed to Fantastic Fest!

And I’m SO! EXCITED! about it!

gandalf and magneto

Sir Ian McKellen continues to win my heart, again, some more, by attending the gay rights anti-pope rally wearing an insanely bad-ass custom version of the official “Some people are gay. Get over it.” shirt.

superman

Guillermo del Toro has turned down an offer to direct the Superman reboot. I think I’m disappointed about that, but possibly relieved. It’s confusing up in here!

red state

Oh yeah! The utterly delightful John Goodman has joined the cast of Kevin Smith’s horror flick Red State, thereby increasing my interest significantly. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Marla resurfaces after mysterious disappearance!

I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA lately. I’m *almost* ready to return full-force back to ye olde blogge once things settle down. In the meantime, here’s another shorty!

sandman

My all-time favorite comic series, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, is being adapted for television, and Gaiman is possibly not involved? A WORLD OF NO. Oh yeah, and somehow Eric Kripke (creator of Supernatural) is involved. Read my review of Supernatural here.

emma frost

First pics of January Jones as bad-ass Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class. She looks more silly than bad-ass, but whattya gonna do? Continue reading
