Extra! Extra! Oz Oz Oz Oz Oz YAWN.

Lord, are there a lot of Wizard of Oz projects on the horizon! And yet none of them is a faithful adaptation of the book (not the musical!) Wicked. le sigh.

The funny thing is, I kind of love all the names attached. Glee’s Lea Michele is set to star in an adaptation also featuring Dan Akroyd, Martin Short, Jim Belushi, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart and Oliver Platt (?!) in a movie musical. Uhm but Bryan Adams is doing the music. wtf? And the OTHER adaptation is a prequel titled Oz, The Great and Powerful directed by SAM RAIMI and starring ROBERT DOWNEY, JR.! Still, yawn. (read my review of Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell here.)

Michael Bay shocks the hell out of me by admitting that he is human and makes mistakes. The next Transformers is to include less wacky “comedy,” fewer racist robot stereotypes (none, dare we hope?) and not nearly so many endings. And of course, no Megan Fox. (read my write-up of megalomaniac Bay here.)   Continue reading

Rest in Peace, Mr. Hopper. Thanks for five decades of fine work.

Everyone have a nice Memorial weekend? Let’s get to it, shall we?

After all that hubbub over who would replace Megan Fox in the next Transformers, Michael Bay Kept it Classy by casting a Victoria’s Secret model with no acting experience. Thanks to Mr. Marla for the link! (Read my review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen here.)

Speaking of The Man Himself, Bay intends to relaunch the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise with a sure-to-be epic, overlong, over-tanned, over-sexed reboot.    Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Lost aired its finale this week! Maybe you heard something about that?

Welcome to News Day Tuesday, where we bring you what incredibly scarce non-Lost scoop we could dig up from the internet this week!

Megan Fox will not be in the third Transformers movies. She quit. Also she was fired because she’s too skinny. Furthermore, she quit because director Michael Bay was verbally abusive. At any rate, various names are being bandied about to replace Fox in the franchise. None of those names is Heidi Montag, despite her urgent tweeting to the contrary. (You can read my post on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the megalomaniacal Bay here.) Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Only Amy Heckerling has the power to make vampires awesome again!

Star Krysten Ritter reveals that Amy Heckerling’s next film will be a “Clueless for vampires,” a premise which seems capable of single-handedly reviving the dwindling empire of sparkle moodiness.

The Superman reboot will be written by Batman Begins and Blade screenwriter David Goyer. This is good news! The remake will not star Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth and it will not be directed by Bryan Singer. This is also good news!

Check out a Q&A with Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski here. And surprise surprise, Disney’s already talking trilogyContinue reading

presskid by you.

It’s a quickie today, folks! Sorry for the systemic whittling down of DIH, but I promise to beef it back up with a vengeance in 6 weeks (aka: post-nuptially).

hunger games

Posh D has unveiled a new blog: Forever Young Adult! Also featuring Erin, frequent commenter here! I am forever in PD’s debt after she loaned me Hunger Games, so take her recommendations very seriously, folks.

20th Century Fox is rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise, hopefully with an entirely new cast and creative team because the last ones sucked ass.

More scoopy goodness for my dears!

Box office-wise, Michael Bay is still managing to crap out billions of dollars without breaking a sweat, The Hangover is hanging in there at third, UP is at a well-deserved fifth, Star Trek will remain in the Top 10 until Judgment Day, and Away We Go is at a surprising and pleasing 10th.

AnAmericanWerewolfInLondon

In fists of fury news, DaybreakersFurst Brothers are eyeing a remaking of An American Werewolf in London, in order to thoroughly bore and depress everyone ever. Oh and you can check out the official Daybreakers trailer here.
