As you’ve likely heard by now, Adrianne Palicki is David E. Kelley’s new Wonder Woman. Solid casting. Pity she’ll be wasted on such a suck of a show. Linda Carter supports the new show, for whatever that is worth.

Mila Kunis is out for the Hughes Bros.’ live action Akira and in for Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful along with James Franco (replacing Robert Downey, Jr.) in the titular role. Kunis will play the Wicked Witch of the West in her younger, fairer years. Raimi, Franco and Kunis make an appealing team, particularly when paired with the great writer David Lindsay-Abaire. I’m in. (Read my review of Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell here.)

ironman

As desperately hoped for last week, Shane Black is confirmed to direct Iron Man 3. Hells to the yes!

As desperately dreaded last week, DJ Caruso will be directing the Preacher adaptation. This is going to be devastatingly shitty, y’all. Continue reading

dark shadows

Michelle Pfeiffer is in talks to reunite with her Batman Returns director Tim Burton, possibly joining Johnny Depp, Eva Green and Jackie Earle Haley for Dark Shadows. You can read a interview here with Barnabas Depp about the film.

wrong turn 2

The plot summary for the upcoming Wrong Turn 4 sounds nothing like a Wrong Turn movie. Whatever.

Check out the trailer and stills gallery for the Landis-produced Some Guy Who Kills People, starring the great Kevin Corrigan, Lucy Davis, Barry Bostwick and Karen Black! I really, really dig it.

Yay! Carpenter’s The Ward has a U.S. distributor! Ignore the shitty one-sheet and refresh yourself with the rad trailer. Continue reading

oscar

The Oscar nominations have been announced with lots of fanfare and few surprises.

As you’ve probably heard by now, Oscar snubbee Christopher Nolan has cast Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as totally random and inexplicable villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. That said, Bane is often wearing tiny wrestling suits that show his rippling muscles to best effect, so I approve of this casting.

wonder-woman

The news keeps changing about this project. NBC has picked up the pilot for David E. Kelley’s (almost definitely) abomination of a Wonder Woman show. If there are any fucking dancing babies on this show, I will use my Lasso of Truth to garrote Kelley’s scrawny little neck.

Beware the new Scream 4 trailer unless you want to know absolutely everything that will happen in the movie, as if you couldn’t figure that out on your own. Also beware the new trailer if you don’t want to die of meta overdose. Check out some new stills at the link.

Of the many Wizard of Oz-adjacent projects on the horizon, the only one other than the Wicked mini-series that I’ve found at all intriguing was the idea of Robert Downey, Jr. playing the Wizard in the prequel Oz, The Great and Terrible. But now RDJ, whom I would have quite liked to see in a quirky fantasy role, has dropped out, to be possibly replaced by Johnny Depp, who plays nothing BUT quirky fantasy roles. Bored now. Favreau says bye-bye to Iron Manchise

boxing match

Everything about this interview confuses me. Jon Favreau is leaving the Iron Man franchise in order to make a Magic Kingdom family film. And that sounds TERRIBLE. But he has such big ideas and so much passion for the project! Usually when someone uses the phrase “family fare,” I flee in terror, but now Favreau’s making Magic Kingdom, Fincher’s making 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Guillermo’s making Haunted Mansion. And I LIKE these directors. I also adore Favreau’s earlier foray into family flicks, Elf, but I’m depressed at the prospect of Iron Man 3 now, when I had such high hopes after Iron Man 2 (reviewed here) for its becoming the trilogy for our generation. Well, at least we have Toy Story.

So…I dunno. I’m all aflutter. Will someone please tell me how to feel about this?

Iron Man 2

Tony Stark is back, bishes! He’s back and refreshingly unchanged as the flawed, hard-partying narcissist with whom we fell in love back in 2008. It’s comforting to realize that in an ever-changing world of chaos and confusion, our Great American Hero remains immutable.

But wait! say you. Superman is the Great American Superhero! I mean, his slogan is “Truth, Justice and the American Way,” for crying out loud! And that’s true, if you’re rather adorably delusional about what it actually means to be an American. Rich, arrogant, bullying, imperious, as red-state as Glenn Beck and a hell of a lot more handsome, Iron Man is about as American as they come. And this bleeding heart blue-stater is mad crushing on him, anyway!

Extra! Extra! James Cameron knows how to make some money!

Surprising no one, Avatar destroyed DVD and Blu-Ray records with its release on Earth Day. I’m curious to see if Pandora holds up on my (admittedly awesome) 2D television. (Read my Avatar review here.)

The internet’s abuzz with news of a new 3D sequel to The Ring. Why anyone cares is a mystery to me.

Bryan Singer and Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie are reuniting for Jack the Giant Killer. Sometimes this team is flawless. Sometimes they make Valkyrie. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Jane Lynch does a better Madonna than Madonna!

Yes, that woman can do ANYTHING. In other Glee news, Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester) gives a charming interview to Vulture and blows my mind with a breakdance-off versus Other Asian. Look forward to the Madonna episode tonight!

Big Tits Zombie 3D wins the award for awesomest title and most promising trailer of the week. Ping-Pong Zombie! Sushi Zombie! And most importantly, Strippers vs. Zombie!!

The legendary Samuel L. Jackson talks about his role as the legendary Nick Fury in Iron-Man 2 and teases us with some Avengers scoop. Continue reading
