oscar

The Oscar nominations have been announced with lots of fanfare and few surprises.

As you’ve probably heard by now, Oscar snubbee Christopher Nolan has cast Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as totally random and inexplicable villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. That said, Bane is often wearing tiny wrestling suits that show his rippling muscles to best effect, so I approve of this casting.

wonder-woman

The news keeps changing about this project. NBC has picked up the pilot for David E. Kelley’s (almost definitely) abomination of a Wonder Woman show. If there are any fucking dancing babies on this show, I will use my Lasso of Truth to garrote Kelley’s scrawny little neck.

Beware the new Scream 4 trailer unless you want to know absolutely everything that will happen in the movie, as if you couldn’t figure that out on your own. Also beware the new trailer if you don’t want to die of meta overdose. Check out some new stills at the link.

Of the many Wizard of Oz-adjacent projects on the horizon, the only one other than the Wicked mini-series that I’ve found at all intriguing was the idea of Robert Downey, Jr. playing the Wizard in the prequel Oz, The Great and Terrible. But now RDJ, whom I would have quite liked to see in a quirky fantasy role, has dropped out, to be possibly replaced by Johnny Depp, who plays nothing BUT quirky fantasy roles. Bored now. betty brant

Zooey Deschanel is being considered as Daily Bugle secretary Betty Brant in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, the role delightfully captured by Elizabeth Banks in that super-old black and white version that came out a hundred years ago. Or, like, 5 minutes ago, what have you. Andrew Garfield (as Spidey) and Emma Stone (as Gwen Stacy) will co-star.

wes anderson

Wes Anderson’s newest opus, Moon Rise Kingdom, will boast a giant amazing ensemb cast as per yuuzh. Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Bruce Willis are all said to star in the upcoming noir thriller. Sweet! Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Marla's got a lot of irons in a lot of fires!

And this will therefore be a shorty edition of NDTD. Let’s hop to!

Scream

There’s a trailer up for Scream 4, and nothing surprising whatsoever happens in it!

men in black

Dramz on the set of Men in Black 3, which may feature Betty White! She’s probably the troublemaker on set. No wait, it’s Will Smith’s giant ego.

alien

Damon Lindelof’s magic script apparently rescued Ridley Scott’s trubs-riddled Alien prequel, thereby perhaps scoring Natalie Portman as the lead. Allegedly. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Insert Clever Headline Here!

Hello all! Thanks to the delightful Reverend Jon for subbing last week. Let’s get to it!

Movie titles keep getting dumber and dumber, to my infinite delight. 5nal Destination is going to rock my gleefully mocking/secretly enjoying ass off!

The international trailer for Let Me In looks like the shit just shit. Even Hit Girl can’t save this one! Check out the original,  folks (titled Let the Right One In, from Norway). It’s easily accessible from your friendly neighborhood Netflix account. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Oz Oz Oz Oz Oz YAWN.

Lord, are there a lot of Wizard of Oz projects on the horizon! And yet none of them is a faithful adaptation of the book (not the musical!) Wicked. le sigh.

The funny thing is, I kind of love all the names attached. Glee’s Lea Michele is set to star in an adaptation also featuring Dan Akroyd, Martin Short, Jim Belushi, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart and Oliver Platt (?!) in a movie musical. Uhm but Bryan Adams is doing the music. wtf? And the OTHER adaptation is a prequel titled Oz, The Great and Powerful directed by SAM RAIMI and starring ROBERT DOWNEY, JR.! Still, yawn. (read my review of Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell here.)

Michael Bay shocks the hell out of me by admitting that he is human and makes mistakes. The next Transformers is to include less wacky “comedy,” fewer racist robot stereotypes (none, dare we hope?) and not nearly so many endings. And of course, no Megan Fox. (read my write-up of megalomaniac Bay here.)   Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Lost aired its finale this week! Maybe you heard something about that?

Welcome to News Day Tuesday, where we bring you what incredibly scarce non-Lost scoop we could dig up from the internet this week!

Megan Fox will not be in the third Transformers movies. She quit. Also she was fired because she’s too skinny. Furthermore, she quit because director Michael Bay was verbally abusive. At any rate, various names are being bandied about to replace Fox in the franchise. None of those names is Heidi Montag, despite her urgent tweeting to the contrary. (You can read my post on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the megalomaniacal Bay here.) Continue reading
