betty brant

Zooey Deschanel is being considered as Daily Bugle secretary Betty Brant in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, the role delightfully captured by Elizabeth Banks in that super-old black and white version that came out a hundred years ago. Or, like, 5 minutes ago, what have you. Andrew Garfield (as Spidey) and Emma Stone (as Gwen Stacy) will co-star.

Extra! Extra! THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

Stick around to the end of the post for some exciting updates in Marla land!

batman

Christopher Nolan has revealed the catchy title of his third Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises. He rules out The Riddler as the film’s villain, which leaves…who? Deadshot? Catwoman? Poison Ivy? Harley Quinn? Mr. Freeze?! WHO WILL IT BE?

Extra! Extra! Wonder Woman is getting the shaft again!

Ugh. So although Hollywood will spit out a dozen movies a year with random, no-big-deal MALE comic book characters, one of the greatest superheroes of all time who happens to be a woman can’t get one single damned feature film. The long-touted Wonder Woman movie is now a television show. Oh AND?! It’s being written/produced by the abysmal David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal). THIS IS BULLSHIT.

Some scoop from the set of X-Men: First Class, being shot at Oxford currently.

And we’ve got some news from NYCC regarding the Deadpool movie and which other Marvel characters we can expect to see, including…Colossus! The coolest X-Man ever! Obvs Ryan Reynolds will not reprise his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine because he’s got bigger, greener, lanternier fish to fry.

wolverine

Speaking of our least favorite comic book movie of all time, serious-business director Darren Aronofsky is considering following the immense critical success of Black Swan with a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Yes, okay, that sounds reasonable utterly insane and made up. (Read my review of Wolverine here.) Continue reading

We'll miss you, Harvey.

Welcome back to News Day Tuesday, where you might find my reporting to be rather lackadaisical because I’m so sad about Harvey Pekar.  Also: I’m lazy.

The 2010 Comic Con schedule is up! Go here to make yourself physically sick with envy, just like me!

I’m not sure how I feel about this All About Evil trailer. Perhaps…warmly? Continue reading

Today is simply rife with news that I thought I’d never care about again and yet cannot seem to keep myself from reporting repeating!

Extra! Extra! A new vampire movie actually sounds interesting to me!

But before that…the SAG awards happened, apparently.

So…Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) is attached to direct a Dracula: Year Zero flick about The Count’s transformation from Vlad the Impaler to Dracula. And Marla’s boyfriend Sam Worthington’s name is being bandied about! And all of a sudden I’m interested in vampires again! And then I remembered that I’m super pumped to watch Chan-wook Park’s sorta-vampire flick Thirst this week, and my life got all twisty-turny. Every time I think I’m out, they suck me back in.

Extra! Extra! News Day Tuesday is back!

I missed you, blog! I’ve been bubbling over with glorious scoop and now I can finally say that OMG I LOVE THE ART FROM TRON LEGACY! Check it:

I KNOW! I KNOW!!

Now, from the far lamer side of the news stream: Blake Lively?! As Carol Ferris?! Are you SHITTING ME? I don’t hate Blake or anything, but she’s 22 and blonde. She’s not Carol Ferris, okay? She’s not.

It’s Recommends Day Wednesday!

I opted to skip NDTD yesterday in order to give a little more blog time to my kick-ass contributors Jerry and Erin, because their reviews were both so fun. Also, I’m lazy! Everybody wins!

I figured I hadn’t done a RDWD in some time, so let’s run with one today, okay folks?

I was talking to a friend about The Mist the other day, discussing how I found myself so pleasantly surprised upon my first viewing. I realized, “Why the hell have I not preached this Misty gospel to that hungry congregation that is the world wide web?!” No one truly understands The Mist, no one believes me until they’ve seen it. I know, I know, most Stephen King movies aren’t particularly hard-core. Or, you know, good. Spoken by a true Stephen King fan, still I repeat: the movies? They suck.*

*this obviously does not apply to The Shining, Shawshank Redemption or Misery. All of which premiered 20-30 years ago, so move on.
