guts blending in

Constant readers (all both of you) may notice that I mined a bit from my DIH Walking Dead posts for this baby, but most of it’s new, so please support a sister and check it out! It’s gonna be a weekly thing, so I’ll just start linking to those posts rather than writing new ones on here—but you’ll still get your weekly Walking Dead fix, fear not!

Extra! Extra! THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

Stick around to the end of the post for some exciting updates in Marla land!

batman

Christopher Nolan has revealed the catchy title of his third Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises. He rules out The Riddler as the film’s villain, which leaves…who? Deadshot? Catwoman? Poison Ivy? Harley Quinn? Mr. Freeze?! WHO WILL IT BE?

Episode 1.02 “Guts” Airdate 11.5.10

Directed by Michelle Maxwell McLaren, Written by Frank Darabont

Previously, on The Walking Dead: the pilot episode, “Days Gone Bye,” reviewed here.

The Walking Dead‘s second episode of the 6-episode season is titled “Guts,” and let me tell you, on that score, the ep does not disappoint. As far as gore, kick-ass action and a few moments of breath-holding suspense, “Guts” is a perfect episode. However, as I said last week, The Walking Dead is *supposed* to be about believable characters making relatable decisions. While I understand and appreciate Darabont’s choice to introduce new characters who aren’t in the comic book to the universe, homeboy’s going to have to try a little harder than Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) and T-Dog (IronE Singleton).

guts michael rooker

Allow me to repeat: new characters MERLE DIXON and T-DOG are in this supposedly racially charged episode. ughh. Continue reading

Hey there zombs! Sorry I missed yesterday’s News Day Tuesday—I have been struck by THE PLAGUE (or possibly the common cold) and I have felt far too puny to be my usual chipper blogging self. I promise to make next Tuesday extra-newsy for you!

Who watched The Walking Dead pilot live Halloween night? How exciting was that?! We had a small spooky party and a group of 10-or-so people cozied up in my tiny living room to watch the mayhem unspool—commericals and all!—on my big, pretty TV. And jeezy chreezy, am I glad I have such a nice HD television, because The Walking Dead is, if nothing else, GORE-geous. The stark lighting and bleak landscapes make stunning supplements to the not-insignificant blood splatter.

pilot thriller

Just PRETTY, you know? (pretty scary!) I’ve been waiting breathlessly for this show to premiere since it was first announced. Robert Kirkman’s comic is elegantly told, structured around the depths to which society can plunge when, well, there is no more society. The Walking Dead is not a horror comic, although there are certainly horrific elements in spades. Rather, Walking Dead strives to tell a sprawling character-driven epic, delving into how such havoc and devastation can deeply change a person. Even a good, strong, God-fearing person. Sometimes ESPECIALLY that person. The Walking Dead is a marathon, not a sprint, and Frank Darabont’s adaptation gives every sign of being in it for the long haul. The 90-minute pilot ends approximately 40 pages into the first issue of the so-far 13 volume series. There is a LOT of story left to tell, and after watching the pilot, I am convinced that Darabont is the man to do it. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! It's Back to the Future day!

They’re re-releasing the first film to theaters—I saw it on the big screen last night, and it was glorious! You can buy the 25th anniversary blu-ray of the trilogy today and you can read some fun anniversary scoop here and here. Eric Stoltz, huh?

the crow

WHYYYYYYY?! Mark Wahlberg is allegedly in talks for a remake of The Crow. This shit is getting ridiculous.

the hobbit

Yes! Ending months of speculation and hoping, Peter Jackson announced that Martin Freeman will play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.  More perfect casting can’t be imagined. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Marla's got a lot of irons in a lot of fires!

And this will therefore be a shorty edition of NDTD. Let’s hop to!

Scream

There’s a trailer up for Scream 4, and nothing surprising whatsoever happens in it!

men in black

Dramz on the set of Men in Black 3, which may feature Betty White! She’s probably the troublemaker on set. No wait, it’s Will Smith’s giant ego.

alien

Damon Lindelof’s magic script apparently rescued Ridley Scott’s trubs-riddled Alien prequel, thereby perhaps scoring Natalie Portman as the lead. Allegedly. Continue reading
