Extra! Extra! Marla's face to melt in tragic explosion of awesomeness tonight!

YES! That’s right! I’m seeing Piranha 3D this very evening and I’m CRAZY! EXCITED! Reviews are crazy good, box office numbers are decent and a sequel’s already in the works!

x-men first classJanuary Jones

Loads of casting news for Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class here, including the news that Mad Men‘s January Jones will play the ultimate ice queen and forever Marla girl crush Emma Frost. Jones certainly has the right look, but I’m not convinced she can actually act. Maybe there’s more than petulant Betty to Jones’s repertoire. I hope so, because I REALLY don’t want this movie to screw up Emma Frost. Read my review of Vaughn’s Kick-Ass here.

Extra! Extra! Marla's Mexico Bound!

And I am just WAY! TOO! EXCITED! TO BLOG!

Yes, tomorrow I’m headed south of the border with a group of attractive and promiscuous (kidding!) friends that include: The Good Girl, The Wisecracker, The Rebel, The Engineer and ME. Hopefully it won’t end up like this:

And by that, I mean incredibly boring and stupid. (read the book instead, y’all. It’s fantastic.)

So I’m going to throw out what little news I can be arsed to gather today as my head is already nose-deep in a book on the beach, hand grasped around a frosty beer and toes wriggling in the sand. Let’s hop to!  Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Oz Oz Oz Oz Oz YAWN.

Lord, are there a lot of Wizard of Oz projects on the horizon! And yet none of them is a faithful adaptation of the book (not the musical!) Wicked. le sigh.

The funny thing is, I kind of love all the names attached. Glee’s Lea Michele is set to star in an adaptation also featuring Dan Akroyd, Martin Short, Jim Belushi, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart and Oliver Platt (?!) in a movie musical. Uhm but Bryan Adams is doing the music. wtf? And the OTHER adaptation is a prequel titled Oz, The Great and Powerful directed by SAM RAIMI and starring ROBERT DOWNEY, JR.! Still, yawn. (read my review of Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell here.)

Michael Bay shocks the hell out of me by admitting that he is human and makes mistakes. The next Transformers is to include less wacky “comedy,” fewer racist robot stereotypes (none, dare we hope?) and not nearly so many endings. And of course, no Megan Fox. (read my write-up of megalomaniac Bay here.)   Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Fright Night Remake is Sounding Disconcertingly...Decent?!

With a respectable cast of Colin Farrell, Toni Collete and Anton Yelchin, I find myself waving my fist slightly less vigorously at news of the Fright Night remake. This Remake vs. Original is shapin’ up to be a doozy! Thanks to Jerry for the link. (Read my review of the original Fright Night here.)

There’s some seriously rad Tron Legacy concept art at the link!

Comedy Central’s hooking up those of us desperate for some new Futurama scoop with a new Countdown post every weekday until the new premiere on June 24! I actually found myself DISAPPOINTED when I realized that I would be drinking rum punch on a beach in Mexico during the premiere. Sad, Marla. Sad. Continue reading

presskid by you.

What up, friends? Marla here with all the grue news you can use!

val kilmer

Boring and derivative Chaos Experiment trailer here. Why do directors always insist on putting Val Kilmer in a turtleneck these days? Homeboy is missing the required equipment to rock that style.

the thaw

I much prefer the look of Kilmer’s upcoming The Thaw, which has a groovy, grody and fast-paced trailer. My interest may also have something to do with my boyfriend Aaron Ashmore’s involvement. Yay Jimmy!

Ashmore’s also supposed to be the male lead in this movie. Oh how I love that he’s becoming a little scream king!

FUTURAMA RESURRECTED!!!!!

Posted in Television News with tags , , , on June 9, 2009 by xymarla

Good news, everyone!

HOLY CRAP THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE BIGGEST NEWS EVER !!!!!!

Futurama_characters_small by you.

It’s back, baby! And I couldn’t be more thrilled (so long as all the original talent is brought back as well). Futurama is totally my favorite half-hour show of all time, and it was treated ABOMINABLY by Fox before being canceled. Due to kick-ass DVD sales and syndication ratings (duh, because of its absolute perfection), Fox has been kicking themselves ever since.

AND NOW BLISS!

Superman:Doomsday

Posted in Comic Book Movie Review, Film Review with tags , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2009 by xymarla

Superman: Doomsday is the first in a series of DC Universe animated straight-to-video movies that will be released over the next year or so. The series has also released Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman: Gotham Knight, and the most recent Wonder Woman movie which Marla has been so grievously coveting of late (I’ll SHOW you “very long wait,” Netflix!). I’ll be reviewing the entire series in due time.

sd poster by you.
