dark shadows

Michelle Pfeiffer is in talks to reunite with her Batman Returns director Tim Burton, possibly joining Johnny Depp, Eva Green and Jackie Earle Haley for Dark Shadows. You can read a interview here with Barnabas Depp about the film.

wrong turn 2

The plot summary for the upcoming Wrong Turn 4 sounds nothing like a Wrong Turn movie. Whatever.

Check out the trailer and stills gallery for the Landis-produced Some Guy Who Kills People, starring the great Kevin Corrigan, Lucy Davis, Barry Bostwick and Karen Black! I really, really dig it.

Yay! Carpenter’s The Ward has a U.S. distributor! Ignore the shitty one-sheet and refresh yourself with the rad trailer. Continue reading

oscar

The Oscar nominations have been announced with lots of fanfare and few surprises.

As you’ve probably heard by now, Oscar snubbee Christopher Nolan has cast Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as totally random and inexplicable villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. That said, Bane is often wearing tiny wrestling suits that show his rippling muscles to best effect, so I approve of this casting.

wonder-woman

The news keeps changing about this project. NBC has picked up the pilot for David E. Kelley’s (almost definitely) abomination of a Wonder Woman show. If there are any fucking dancing babies on this show, I will use my Lasso of Truth to garrote Kelley’s scrawny little neck.

Beware the new Scream 4 trailer unless you want to know absolutely everything that will happen in the movie, as if you couldn’t figure that out on your own. Also beware the new trailer if you don’t want to die of meta overdose. Check out some new stills at the link.

Of the many Wizard of Oz-adjacent projects on the horizon, the only one other than the Wicked mini-series that I’ve found at all intriguing was the idea of Robert Downey, Jr. playing the Wizard in the prequel Oz, The Great and Terrible. But now RDJ, whom I would have quite liked to see in a quirky fantasy role, has dropped out, to be possibly replaced by Johnny Depp, who plays nothing BUT quirky fantasy roles. Bored now. Extra! Extra! THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

Stick around to the end of the post for some exciting updates in Marla land!

batman

Christopher Nolan has revealed the catchy title of his third Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises. He rules out The Riddler as the film’s villain, which leaves…who? Deadshot? Catwoman? Poison Ivy? Harley Quinn? Mr. Freeze?! WHO WILL IT BE?

Extra! Extra! Insert Clever Headline Here!

Hello all! Thanks to the delightful Reverend Jon for subbing last week. Let’s get to it!

Movie titles keep getting dumber and dumber, to my infinite delight. 5nal Destination is going to rock my gleefully mocking/secretly enjoying ass off!

The international trailer for Let Me In looks like the shit just shit. Even Hit Girl can’t save this one! Check out the original,  folks (titled Let the Right One In, from Norway). It’s easily accessible from your friendly neighborhood Netflix account. Continue reading

Posted in Film Review, Horror Movie Review, Remake vs. Original with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 5, 2010 by xymarla

Welcome to a new feature at Danny Isn’t Here, wherein Hollywood must answer to my poison pen for their incessant remakes! Now, I realize that this feature will require my watching many, many shitty remakes, but because I am both brave AND bored, I shall endeavor to do so. FOR YOU.

And thus! I bring to you:

 versus  !

Round One! The basics.

A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984. Written and directed by Wes Craven. 91 minutes.

A Nightmare on Elm Street, 2010. Written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer, directed by Samuel Baker. 95 minutes. Continue reading

Quickie Review: Alice in Wonderland

Posted in Fantasy Movie Review, Film Review, Quickie Review with tags , , , , , , , , on March 8, 2010 by xymarla

I’ve got a full blogging plate this week, but I had to take a moment to recommend Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to you guys!

I have to admit, after reading many tepid reviews, I was beginning to feel pretty uneasy about this version of Lewis Carroll’s beloved Alice. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton created an entirely new story of the 19-year-old Alice’s return to Wonderland, and that’s an extraordinarily ballsy endeavor. Fortunately, the risk paid off.

Extra! Extra! Only Amy Heckerling has the power to make vampires awesome again!

Star Krysten Ritter reveals that Amy Heckerling’s next film will be a “Clueless for vampires,” a premise which seems capable of single-handedly reviving the dwindling empire of sparkle moodiness.

The Superman reboot will be written by Batman Begins and Blade screenwriter David Goyer. This is good news! The remake will not star Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth and it will not be directed by Bryan Singer. This is also good news!

Check out a Q&A with Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski here. And surprise surprise, Disney’s already talking trilogyContinue reading

Extra! Extra! Looks like I'm the one who has some words to eat!

Yes, despite my taunting of Eric Kripke last week,  he actually is sticking with his original plan of ditching Supernatural after five seasons. Next season will bring a new arc and a new showrunner! Not sure how I feel about this; I may just pretend the series ends with this year’s finale.

Supernatural‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Sam Worthington will star in a movie about League City’s I-45 “killing fields,” where as many as 70 bodies have turned up over the years.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of the excellent 28 Weeks Later, has a new film out called The Intruders, a fright flick centered around an 11-yr-old girl. No more details yet, but I’m excited!

The new international Tron Legacy poster is out and awesome. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Time to get trashed on hurricanes and earn some beads!

Happy News Day Fat Tuesday, everyone!

Check out this interview with Linda Woolverton, wherein the screenwriter for Alice in Wonderland marvels at her own audacity. You can read more Alice soundbites from Tim Burton and Johnny Depp here
