It’s News Day Tuesday!

Yummy, sufficiently square-jawed British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Zack Snyder’s Superman in the upcoming flick produced by Christopher Nolan. Cavill previously represented the hottest part of The Tudors as Charles Brandon. Hollywood can rest easy: I approve.

Now that The Dark Tower series adaptation is allegedly taking off, Hollywood is turning its eye to another epic Stephen King property, The Stand.  Warner Bros. are planning to adapt the film onto the big screen, unlike the lovably shitty 90s mini-series. This will need to be made into at least two movies, I believe.

roland

In related news, Javier Bardem has officially been offered the part of Roland in The Dark Tower series. Bardem’s a fiercely talented, duly craggy actor, so I’m pleased. I’d be pleased-er if Bardem turned down the role and then it went to Viggo, but we can’t get everything we want, can we? Check out my Dark Tower casting call: Round One (the main ka-tet), Round Two (the allies) and Round Three (the villains). You can also read my thorough predictions for the upcoming adaptation here.

Bardem has also been offered the villain’s role in the latest Bond film, should MGM get its shit together and that movie ever actually happens. Bardem was also recently nominated for an Oscar and just had a baby with the brain-searingly hot Penelope Cruz, so he’s officially having the Best Week Ever. Continue reading

Apologies! I know all I’ve done on ye olde blogge lately is NDTD and link to my Badass Digest posts, and please trust that I am duly chagrined about that. I’m going to move this baby back to the front burner as soon as I get everything sorted, but thanks for your patience in the meantime. As a token of my gratitude, please enjoy an extra-newsy News Day!Wicked

Amidst the virtual crap storm of Oz movies that are floating around Hollywood these days, the project nearest to my heart is finally coming to life! ABC is developing an adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked–from which the blockbuster musical sprung–in the ideal format for it, a mini-series.

Lots of The Green Hornet news as its release date looms. Go behind the scenes here, gape in amazement at the outrageous budget along with Seth Rogen here, and read a great interview with Rogen here where he gives a tidbit about Seth and Jay vs. The Apocalypse and name-drops The Mist (hell yes!) as its inspiration.

Monsters director Gareth Edwards is going to billionuple his budget by taking on  Godzilla next. Continue reading

christmas evil

Happy holidays, spooks. My gift to all the good boys and girls is plenty of juicy scoop, straight from their blogs to my blog to you!

cabin in the woods

It’s a Christmas miracle! MGM’s allegedly getting back on its feet, which is good news for the next Bond film, for The Hobbit and oh! oh! For Joss and Drew’s The Cabin in the Woods!

paul

The trailer for Greg Mottola’s Paul, starring the unbeatable duo of Pegg and Frost along with Seth Rogen’s charming voice and every other comedic actor I have ever enjoyed in the past five years, is just totally adorable.

katee sackhoff

In what sounds like a pretty clever conceit, BSG badass Katee Sackhoff will play the title character in Sexy Evil Genius. Could be great, despite the fact that it will be headed by the showrunner on ABC Fam’s Greek, which is probably not a good show.

heather morris

Glee‘s resident delightful dumbass Heather Morris confirms that she’s in talks to play Buffy in the ill-advised remake. I still don’t give a shit about this remake, but that’s not bad casting. Continue reading

super

YAY! James Gunn’s Super has a release date and new photos. It feels like I’ve been waiting for this shit FOREVER. (Read my review of Gunn’s Slither here.)

gandalfgandalf and magneto

Sorta maybe almost-definite confirmation that Ian McKellan will return as Gandalf in The Hobbit. He had fucking BETTER. Just finished re-reading The Hobbit and I’m ready for this movie to get itself rolling already. Even though it will be shot in tiresome 3D.

leland

Nice! Leland Palmer/Ray Wise has been cast in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class as the Secretary of the State. (Read my reviews of Vaughn’s Kick-Ass here and Ray Wise in Twin Peaks here.) Continue reading

Extra! Extra! It's Back to the Future day!

They’re re-releasing the first film to theaters—I saw it on the big screen last night, and it was glorious! You can buy the 25th anniversary blu-ray of the trilogy today and you can read some fun anniversary scoop here and here. Eric Stoltz, huh?

the crow

WHYYYYYYY?! Mark Wahlberg is allegedly in talks for a remake of The Crow. This shit is getting ridiculous.

the hobbit

Yes! Ending months of speculation and hoping, Peter Jackson announced that Martin Freeman will play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.  More perfect casting can’t be imagined. Continue reading

star wars

Extra! Extra! George Lucas has found a way to milk even more money from our childhoods! ALL SIX Star Wars movies will be re-released to theaters in 3D. Lordy.

superman

Zack Snyder has been chosen as the director for the Superman reboot by producer Christopher Nolan. The movie will be written by David Goyer. Solid choice, guys. To no one’s surprise, Brandon Routh is probably not being asked to return as the title hero in tights.

the hobbit

Also Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit will be released in 3D. Obvs.

spiderman

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s name is being bandied about as Venom in the Spider-Man reboot, probably just to get skeptics like myself to be interested in it. Well played, bishes. Continue reading

Extra! Extra! Marla resurfaces after mysterious disappearance!

I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA lately. I’m *almost* ready to return full-force back to ye olde blogge once things settle down. In the meantime, here’s another shorty!

sandman

My all-time favorite comic series, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, is being adapted for television, and Gaiman is possibly not involved? A WORLD OF NO. Oh yeah, and somehow Eric Kripke (creator of Supernatural) is involved. Read my review of Supernatural here.

emma frost

First pics of January Jones as bad-ass Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class. She looks more silly than bad-ass, but whattya gonna do? Continue reading

Oof, it’s almost Christmas, ya heard? Slave-driving Santa is keeping this little elf hella busy, so it’ll be a shortie this week!

golden globes

The Golden Globe noms are up and they’re typically boring and random. I love watching this particular kudos show because I think it’s fun and shiny, but yeah, the awards themselves are utterly irrelevant. But what do we think about exes Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron going up against one another for Best Director? EXCITING! (Y’all know I’m psyched about Avatar, and I totally accidentally missed The Hurt Locker in the theatre, but still, go Kat!)

hobbit

Hrmm. Peter Parker as Bilbo Baggins? Get out your grain of salt for this one. I still like James McAvoy for the role, but granted, I like Jimmy Mac for everything. Seriously, for every role ever.
